What it is
MAN Engines builds the V12 in ratings from the V12-1400 and V12-1550 up to the V12-1900 and V12-2000. Ratings run from 1,029 kW (1,400 hp) to 1,471 kW (2,000 hp), all at 2,300 rpm.3
The V12-1550 makes 1,140 kW (1,550 hp). MAN calls the V12-2000 the only twelve-cylinder V-engine to date with 2,000 hp.1,3
How it runs
Every rating displaces 24.24 liters in twelve cylinders set in a 90-degree V. It is a four-stroke, water-cooled diesel with four valves per cylinder and electronically controlled common rail injection.3
The V12-1400 and V12-1550 breathe through a single-stage turbocharger with intercooler and wastegate; the V12-1550 with SCR uses two stages. The V12-2000 adds new turbochargers and newly developed cylinder heads to reach 61 kW per liter.1,3
What it's good for
Space is the case for it. MAN sells its V-engines on power in compact dimensions. Marlin points to the limited space on sport-fishing boats and calls the MAN V engines light with a small footprint.2,5
Dry, the V12-2000 weighs 2,380 kg, or 1.62 kg per kW. Marlin reported lower weight than competitive engines. MAN says the V12-2000 opens its engines to boats around 100 feet.1,4
