Builder · Manteo, North Carolina

Warren O'Neal

Warren R. O'Neal (1910–2000), born in Manteo, built his first boat, a flat-bottom skiff, in 1925. In 1959 he built the Pearl II on a deep-V hull of wooden plank and epoxy glue that became his trademark and later the Carolina design, and he is credited with building the first modern sport fishing boat in Dare County that year. O'Neal Boat Works built numerous sports fishers, small boats and skiffs, and many boatbuilding craftsmen worked there at one time.
