Hydroplane racer James Claude Smith set up in Stuart in 1959 and launched the 35-foot Boca Jima, the cold-molded double-diagonal cedar hull the yard credits with changing boatbuilding. John Vance took over in 1989 and still builds one clean-sheet cold-molded sportfisherman at a time.
