Garlington

Richard Garlington did not like the boats on offer in the early eighties, so he had his friend Dan McCarthy, a Navy submarine designer, draw a soft-riding hull, and built it in Stuart from 1980. The 61, drawn as a 58, became the yard's icon and was copied up and down the coast. Peter and Evert Landeweer bought the company in 1993, took it from cold-molded wood to infused Corecell, Kevlar and carbon, and still build the 44, 49, 61 and 71 on Slater Street. Garlington died in 2003. The yard publishes no hull list; press counts hulls by model, as in the nineteenth 61.
